The Castle, built in
1392, is set amidst a beautiful Deer Park with breathtaking views
across to the Exe Estuary. Its ancient woodland creates a peaceful
setting where fallow deer graze and where grey herons and exotic
egrets are a familiar sight around the lakes.
The majestic State
Rooms were originally designed to impress and continue to do so to
this day. The vast Music Room is light and airy; with a splendid
domed ceiling creating wonderful acoustics. The
State Dining Room has an exceptionally warm and welcoming
atmosphere and unlike some stately homes the fireplace and
minstrel’s gallery are often used by guests. The splendid
libraries are equally impressive, making it hard to choose which
rooms to use.
