Powderham Live
10th October, 2016
Local Musical Talent Storms the Castle
Young musical talent will be storming the Castle on Saturday 22 October when Powderham Castle introduces ‘Powderham Live!’. The evening will consist of up to 12 acts invited by AJ, the Countess of Devon, to perform in the James Wyatt Music Room, including jazz piano, singer songwriters, violin, electric guitar and more, followed by a DJ in the Castle libraries.
Inspired while hosting Radio 1’s Big Weekend, which was awarded South Devon’s Tourism Event of the Year just last week, Powderham is proud to support young artists in the region by inviting a diverse number of acts to launch this annual celebration of local music.
Local teenage students have received a personal invitation from the Countess of Devon to showcase their talent. AJ explains:
“While working with the BBC Academy, we were given the opportunity to meet many of the local school music departments and young musicians. It was a highlight of working on the Big Weekend that inspired us to open our doors and give young artists the opportunity to take centre stage at Powderham. We are lucky to have this magical space and we are looking forward to the performers bringing our Music Room to life in a new way.”
She continues, “We are very grateful for the enthusiasm and help from our local community, school music programs, and local charity The Helen Foundation in launching Powderham Live! “
Based in Teighnbridge, The Helen Foundation supports young people’s aspirations in the arts. Roger Kirk, Trustee of The Helen Foundation, comments:
“The Helen Foundation is delighted to support this very exciting initiative by Powderham Castle: encouraging young people to participate in arts activities of all kinds is central to the vision of The Helen Foundation. Offering talented young musicians this special opportunity to perform at the Castle will not only provide a truly memorable experience for those taking part, but encourage other budding performers to come forward on a future occasion. THF is very grateful for the continuing patronage of Diana, Dowager Countess of Devon and to Powderham Castle, which selected the charity to support this year.”
A limited number of guests can attend this exclusive event. Tickets are available to purchase for £5 from the Powderham Box Office on 01626 890243 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm) or [email protected]
