Deer Park

Due to COVID-19, we regret that Deer Park Safaris will not be running until further notice. Our apologies for any inconvenience.

The Deer Park has altered very little since it was first depicted on a map in 1723. It contains a diverse range of trees, principally oak, lime and plane. There are remnants of c1710 avenues, nineteenth century exotics and more recently replacement plantings of oak, horse chestnut and copper beech.

Deer Park Safari

Take in the sights of the Castle's natural rugged beauty on our tractor trailer rides around the grounds of Powderham. Our Deer Park is home to 600 Fallow deer as well as lots of other wildlife!

You will learn about their habitat and the history of the Castle through a running commentary and see an exceptional view of the Castle from what was originally the front entrance.

Book Tickets

The trip takes about 35 minutes, running at a leisurely pace to allow visitors to take some unique photos and relax in what has to be one of the most stunning settings in Devon. A real treat!

The pick up point is opposite the Welcome Hut, by the lake and the trailer can hold a maximum of 30 people seated.

The Tractor and Trailer is wheelchair accessible.

Deer park safaris run depending on ground condition and weather. Please ring ahead to confirm if the safari will take place. Timings may vary on selected days.
