Join one of our knowledgeable team for a guided tour of the Castle. Discover over 600 years of stories relating to the Courtenays, County and Country. With opportunities to ask questions as you explore.

If you’d rather explore at your own pace, whilst still discovering the castle’s rich history through our curated exhibitions and displays then opt for the self-guided tours. Between the castle, grounds and café; the itinerary of the day is up to you.

Our special interest tours, are created and led by specialists from our team, and exclusively available to groups. Learn about Powderham’s past, present and purpose on our interactive Q&A driven tour. Dive into the paintings and portraits through our Courtenays on Canvas tour. Go beyond the baize door and enjoy rare access to our archive with our collections and curiosities experience.

Grounds & Gardens

Discover the natural and social history of Powderham’s grounds and gardens. Led by one of our gardens team, our route will take you from the formality of the Rose Garden to the wilderness of the American Garden; covering Georgian, Victorian and 20th Century landscape history. These tours can be extended with the inclusion of our tractor trailer ride through the Deer Park and up to the Belvedere. Offering unique access, and unrivalled panoramic views from the City to Coast.

Hospitality

Whether it’s an afternoon tea in the Music Room or a lunchbox to take-away with you on the coach, if you’re looking for somewhere to stay nearby, or wish to hire the castle’s bedrooms for the weekend. We have a range of hospitality options to suit you and your requirements. The Coach House can be booked in advance, or you can opt to self-service from the Courtyard Café. Our Groups Manager will be glad to introduce you to our team who can elevate your day out.

Whether it’s a particular era or area of interest, get in touch with our team from archivists to educators we’ve got a wealth and breadth of knowledge to cater for almost any request. We’re happy to build bespoke itineraries to cater for long or short visits, and can incorporate a range of hospitality options too.

Plus, with a range of different activities on-site we can make experiences truly unique. Including animal encounters and experiences, safari rides and even roof-top experiences. If we can’t do it, we’re happy to work with third-parties, adding the possibility of opportunities such as actors or reenactments, quad-biking, hot air balloons or lectures with world-class academics.

Private Tours with the Earl of Devon

Book any of our experiences and make it especially memorable with a private tour by Charlie. Join him as he shares stories, memories and all he has learnt during his life at Powderham. Hear the secrets and adventures, as well as how he is fulfilling his role as the 19th Earl of Devon. Tours last approximately 90 minutes, but can be tailored to suit your needs.
